Hunza Valley’s spring is not a single event it is a progression. In the third week of March, the apricot trees in Karimabad and Altit are the first to open. Pale pink flowers cover the terraced orchards against a backdrop of snow still peaks. Then the almond trees follow. Then cherry. Then peach, plum, and apple, moving up the valley in sequence as the altitude rises. By the time Gulmit and Passu bloom in mid-April, the lower valley is already turning green.
This 7day tour is built to catch both windows. Days 2 and 3 are in Nagar Valley, where the orchards sit directly below Rakaposhi and the Hopar Glacier the combination of spring blossom and glacier is genuinely unlike anything else in Pakistan. Day 4 moves to Karimabad and the forts. Day 5 goes all the way to Upper Hunza via Attabad Lake, where the Gulmit and Passu orchards are at peak bloom in early to mid-April. Day 3 also includes Naltar Valley by 4×4 Jeep the colored lakes surrounded by pine forest in spring are something most blossom tours skip entirely.
March 21 is Navroz the Persian New Year and the Ismaili community’s spring festival in Karimabad. If your tour timing aligns, the Polo Ground celebrations and the decorated streets of Karimabad make for an experience that is not on any standard itinerary.

Note: Bloom timing shifts by one to three weeks depending on winter snowfall. A cold winter delays the season. A warm winter brings it forward. We monitor conditions and update departure recommendations in late February each year. Contact us on WhatsApp for the current season forecast before booking.
Navroz is the Persian New Year and one of the most significant celebrations in the Ismaili Hunzai calendar. On March 21, the Polo Ground in Karimabad fills with people in traditional Hunzai dress. There are prayers, music, polo matches, and food. The streets of Karimabad are decorated with spring flowers and blossom branches.
If your tour departs in the third week of March, you may arrive in Karimabad during or just after Navroz. This is not a ticketed event the celebrations are open and the atmosphere in the bazaar and on the roads leading to the Polo Ground is genuinely welcoming. We do not build Navroz into the fixed itinerary because the date varies by year, but we flag it when booking if your travel dates align.
Pickup from your doorstep in Islamabad or Rawalpindi in the morning. Drive north via the Hazara Expressway through Abbottabad and Mansehra. Breakfast stop at Balakot or Mansehra. The road follows the Kunhar River through increasingly dramatic gorge scenery. Continue on the Karakoram Highway through Battagram and Besham. The Indus River joins the route after Besham and stays as a companion through the gorge all the way to Chilas. Arrive Chilas by evening. Check into Shangrila Resort Chilas. Overnight in Chilas.
Note: This day is 10 to 11 hours of driving with stops. It is the longest driving day of the tour. Departure at 7:00 AM is important.
After breakfast, continue north on the KKH. Stop at the confluence point near Gilgit where three of the world’s great mountain ranges the Karakoram, Hindu Kush, and Himalaya meet within a visible distance. This is not a tourist construction; it is a geographical reality that can be seen from the road. Continue to Nagar Valley.
Nagar Valley sits directly across the Hunza River from Karimabad. In spring, the orchards on the valley slopes bloom against a backdrop dominated by Rakaposhi at 7,788 meters and Diran at 7,257 meters. The combination of blossoms at 2,200 to 2,600 meters with glaciated peaks above is the most dramatic spring landscape in this tour. Check into Roomy Yurt Minapin an accommodation placed directly in the orchard belt below Rakaposhi with unobstructed mountain views. Overnight in Nagar Valley.
Full day excursion to Naltar Valley from Nagar base. The road to Naltar branches from Gilgit city, climbs 40 kilometers into a separate mountain valley at 2,800 to 3,000 meters. 4×4 Jeep is required beyond a certain point included in your package price.
Naltar in spring has a different character from the rest of the tour. The pine forests are dense, the three Naltar lakes Naltar Lake, Bashkiri Lake, and Satrangi Lake sit surrounded by snow-dusted trees in late March and early April. The walk from the road to Satrangi Lake takes approximately 30 minutes through pine forest. In spring the lake edges may still have snow, and the water color is deep blue-green. The blossom trees in the lower Naltar Valley below the ski resort are at full bloom in late March. Return to Nagar Valley by evening. Overnight at Roomy Yurt Minapin.
After breakfast, drive from Nagar to Karimabad approximately 45 minutes across the Hunza River. Check into Hunza Darbar Hotel in Karimabad.
Morning visit to Altit Fort over 900 years old and one of the oldest surviving structures in Gilgit-Baltistan. The Aga Khan Trust restoration has preserved it meticulously. The fort grounds include Altit Village, the Royal Garden, and an ancient swimming pool carved into the rock. Entry tickets are included in your package. During blossom season, the path up to Altit Fort runs through orchard terraces in full bloom.
Afternoon visit to Baltit Fort 13th century, used as the royal residence of the Mirs of Hunza for 700 years. The guided tour takes about 45 minutes. The terrace at the top of Baltit Fort, with Ultar Sar glacier directly above and the entire Karimabad Valley below, is one of the finest viewpoints in Hunza at any season in blossom season the valley floor is covered in pink and white. Entry included.
Evening at Karimabad Bazaar. Optional walk on the Aliabad to Karimabad trail through the terraced orchards approximately 2 kilometers, 40 minutes one way. Overnight at Hunza Darbar Hotel.
This is the day for Upper Hunza the Gojal region where the orchard villages are at peak bloom in the first two weeks of April. Depart Karimabad after checkout. Drive north along the KKH past the turquoise water of Attabad Lake. Check into Luxus Attabad Resort, located directly on the shore of the lake.
After check-in, boat ride on Attabad Lake (charges apply, not included). Continue driving to Gulmit Village known for its meadows and fruit orchards at 2,400 meters. In April, the Gulmit meadows are covered in pink and white blossom with Rakaposhi visible to the south and the Karakoram wall to the north. Continue to Passu Village and the Passu Cones seven sharply pointed rock spires that rise from the valley floor. In spring, the lower slopes near Passu Village have apricot and cherry trees in bloom, creating a contrast with the grey-brown rock spires above that is one of the most photographed scenes in the valley.
Return to Luxus Attabad Resort for the night. Overnight on the lake shore.
Checkout from Luxus Attabad Resort after breakfast. Begin the return journey south on the KKH. The drive from Attabad to Besham takes approximately 11 to 12 hours with stops. The route follows the Hunza River to Gilgit, then the Indus River gorge south through Chilas, Sazin, Dasu, and Battagram to Besham. This is a long driving day departure after breakfast is important. Arrive Besham by evening. Check into Hilton Besham Hotel. Overnight in Besham.
After breakfast, depart Besham. Drive via Hazara Expressway and Abbottabad back to Islamabad. The drive takes approximately 5 hours. Arrive Islamabad by afternoon. Drop at your doorstep. End of services.

The term ‘cherry blossom’ has become the popular shorthand for Hunza spring, but the actual blossom season covers six distinct tree types, each blooming at slightly different times. Knowing what to expect at each stage helps you set the right expectations for your travel dates.
Tree | Bloom Window | Appearance | Where to See It |
Apricot | Mid March to early April | White flowers, most abundant tree in Hunza | Karimabad, Altit, Nagar, Gulmit |
Almond | Mid March – often first to bloom | White to pale pink, small flowers | Karimabad lower orchards, Nagar |
Cherry | Late March to mid April | Pink-white clusters, the most photogenic | Karimabad, Altit Fort gardens, Passu |
Plum | Late March to early April | White flowers, smaller tree | Nagar Valley orchards |
Apple and Pear | April onwards | White flowers with pink centers | Upper Hunza – Gulmit, Ghulkin |
Peach | Late March to April | Deep pink – most colorful individual bloom | Scattered throughout Karimabad and Nagar |
The total blossom window in Hunza runs from approximately March 15 to April 20, with the peak photographic window being March 28 to April 12. If you want deep pink color, look for peach trees. If you want the classic white valley that covers the most ground, book for the apricot and cherry peak in late March to early April.
Shangrila Resort is one of the better known hotels in Chilas. It sits on the KKH with mountain-facing rooms. Chilas is a transit stop — you arrive by evening and depart after breakfast. The hotel provides comfortable standard rooms and breakfast.
Roomy Yurt Minapin is a distinctive property in the Nagar Valley orchard belt. The accommodation is in traditional yurts set within the apricot and cherry orchards at the base of Rakaposhi. In blossom season, guests wake up to orchard views with Rakaposhi’s 7,788-meter summit directly above. This is the most unique accommodation on the tour and the one most guests remember. The property operates as a working orchard farm.
Hunza Darbar is a boutique-style hotel in Karimabad with rooftop views of Rakaposhi and the Hunza Valley. The location is walking distance from Baltit Fort and the Karimabad Bazaar. Standard rooms and suites available. Breakfast included.
Luxus Attabad Resort is located directly on the shore of Attabad Lake. The turquoise lake water is visible from room balconies. In spring, the hillsides above the lake have blossom trees. The resort has a restaurant, lake-facing rooms, and boating access. This is the luxury stay of the tour.
Hilton Besham is a transit stop on the return journey. Standard comfortable hotel in Besham city on the KKH. Overnight only — you depart after breakfast the next morning for Islamabad.
Travel Week | Lower Hunza | Upper Hunza (Gulmit/Passu) | Overall Rating | Book If |
March 15-21 | Early blossom -30-50% open | Not yet bloomed | Good | You want first blossoms + Navroz festival (March 21) |
March 22-28 | Peak approaching – 70-90% open | Just starting | Very Good | You want lower Hunza at its best |
March 29 – April 4 | Peak bloom – 90-100% open | 30-50% open | Excellent | Best overall window for this 7-day tour |
April 5-11 | Past peak – green leaves appearing | 60-90% open | Excellent | You prioritize Upper Hunza + Passu blossom |
April 12-20 | Mostly green | Peak to late bloom | Good | Upper Hunza only — skip if Karimabad blossom is priority |
Our recommendation: Depart March 29 to April 5 for the best balance of both blossom zones. Both Karimabad (Days 4) and Upper Hunza (Day 5) will be at peak or near-peak during this window.

Based on typical seasonal patterns, Karimabad and lower Hunza peak from late March to early April roughly March 28 to April 7. Upper Hunza villages like Gulmit and Passu peak later, from approximately April 7 to April 20. The exact timing shifts by one to three weeks depending on winter temperatures. A warm winter brings the bloom forward; a cold winter delays it. We update our seasonal forecast on WhatsApp in late February each year.
Yes. The itinerary has no trekking requirement beyond short optional walks. The roads are all paved. Hotel accommodation is in comfortable named properties. The longest driving days (Day 1 and Day 6) are the most tiring children generally manage well if departure is on time and regular rest stops are made. The Naltar 4×4 Jeep excursion on Day 3 is usually a highlight for children.
Three things: First, this tour covers both Nagar Valley and Upper Hunza most competitors only visit one blossom zone. Second, Naltar Valley by 4×4 Jeep is included no other standard cherry blossom package includes Naltar. Third, the hotels are named properties Roomy Yurt Minapin, Hunza Darbar, and Luxus Attabad Resort not generic ‘comfortable hotels’.
Yes. Altit Fort and Baltit Fort entry tickets are included in the PKR 167,500 package price. No additional payment is needed at the fort gates for these two sites. Other entry tickets boating, Naltar additional charges are not included.
March nights in Hunza are cold 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. A warm jacket and thermal layer are essential, even if days feel mild. Sunscreen is needed at all altitudes in spring UV is strong even with cloud. Comfortable walking shoes are required for the Altit and Baltit Fort visits and the Naltar Valley walk. Camera or phone with good storage blossom season produces a lot of photographs. Original CNIC for hotel check-in.
Yes. Skardu also has a blossom season in spring slightly later than Hunza due to higher altitude. Adding 3 to 4 days after Day 5 (Upper Hunza) allows you to continue east to Skardu via the Gilgit-Skardu road. Contact us on WhatsApp with your dates and we will provide a customized itinerary and price.
This is a private tour. Your vehicle, your schedule, your group only. Departure is from Islamabad or Rawalpindi on the date you choose. We do not add other travelers to your booking. Group tours with fixed departures are available separately contact us if you prefer a shared departure with a fixed date.
