Swat is a district of Malakand Division the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan. The lush green and historic Swat Valley is surrounded by the city of Chitral, Upper Dir and Lower Dir in the West, Gilgit-Baltistan in North Kohistan, Buner and Shangla in the East and South East. Swat valley is famous for its outstanding natural landscape, water streams and hospitality of local people. Swat was a major centre of early Buddhist thought as part of the Gandhara kingdom and today is littered with ruins from that era. Swat’s capital is Saidu Sharif, though the largest city, and main commercial Centre, is nearby of Mingora. Swat is the 15th-largest district of KPK.

Kalam is a valley located at a distance of 99 kilometres (62 mi) from Mingora in the northern upper reaches of Swat valley along the bank of Swat River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Kalam is surrounded by lush green hills, thick forests and bestowed with mesmeric lakes, meadows and waterfalls which are worth seen features of the landscape. It is the birthplace of the Swat river which forms with the confluence of two major tributaries of Gabral River and Ushu River.
